Online Courses at OMERI
OMERI has two categories of online courses to help meet a wide variety of practitioner needs and interests:
Orthopedic Massage Online Certification:
This is our most comprehensive online training course currently offered. If you are serious about learning clinical rehabilitation science in massage, this program is for you. The program offers three modules: Orthopedic Massage 1 (back, neck, & pelvis), Orthopedic Massage 2 (lower extremities), and Orthopedic Massage 3 (upper extremities). Each of these courses is a 6-week course. When you have completed all three you can sit for the certification exam. We have new groups that are starting these courses every few months. For more informaition on these courses click here.
Short Courses:
For those looking for shorter courses on specific topics we have a series of courses that are between 3 and 5 CE hours that will be continually expanded. The first of these include a 10-part series of home study courses to accompany the book Orthopedic Assessment in Massage Therapy. For more information on the short courses click here.
Technical Specifications:
There are some technical specifications you should be aware of that will help you work most effectively with any of our online programs. They are listed below.
- It is best if you have a high-speed internet connection for the course, although it is not mandatory. We have attempted to keep activities to a minimum that involve large file sizes so those on a dial-up connection will not have long download periods. However, following our initial survey an overwhelming number of respondents stated they had broadband connections, so we want to use those capabilities as well.
- You should have a version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader so you can view pdf files. If you don’t have Acrobat reader on your computer you can get it as a free download from the Adobe website at: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
- This course will work best if you are using a moderately new web browser. Please note that if you are on a Mac operating system there are some reported problems with the Safari browser and our course shell software. You are highly encouraged to use Firefox for the Mac as your web browser. These web browser versions should work just fine:
- Internet Explorer 6 or later
- Firefox 1 or later
- Netscape 7 or later
