Online or Hands-On Workshop?
A frequent question I get asked is… What’s the difference between the workshop and online courses you offer?
- Workshop courses emphasize hands-on technique. I demonstrate scientifically-based assessment and treatment methods, explain the physiology behind their use, and then students practice those techniques. These techniques contribute to your professional bag of tools.
- However, just because you have a bag of tools, doesn’t make you a good carpenter. A skilled craftsman is good not only because of the tools he or she uses, but because of their knowledge about how to use those tools.
- My online courses accommodate this aspect of learning and emphasize the “how, when, and why” of assessment and treatment to gain the greatest benefit.
- When a client comes in, do you go through an educated process of determining an effective approach? Or simply set about working on them?
- In an effective treatment, you would consider many aspects of anatomy, biomechanics, pathology, and kinesiology to address your client’s needs.
- Making clinical decisions is called clinical reasoning and it is an often neglected, but essential aspect of being a skillful clinician.
- Our online courses emphasize these essential skills. You will master topics like clinical reasoning and rehabilitation science far more successfully in the online environment. These cannot be adequately covered in a weekend workshop where you are focusing mostly on learning techniques.
